There’s something special about starting the day with a homemade breakfast, and one of our guest favorites here at Margin Street Inn is our Granola. Handcrafted by Sarah herself, this recipe is a mix of crunchy oats, flavorful spices, and just the right balance of nuts and dried fruit. It’s perfect as a topping for yogurt, mixed with fresh fruit, or even enjoyed on its own as a simple, delicious snack.

Now, we’re sharing the recipe so you can bring a little taste of Margin Street Inn to your own kitchen. Whether you’re looking for a quick breakfast or a snack to fuel your fall adventures, this granola will quickly become a go-to!

Margin Street Inn Granola Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 ½ Cups old fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 ½ – 2 cups of mixed nuts (Walnuts, pecans, almond slivers, cashews, and sometimes pistachios are my go-to!)
  • 1 cup shredded unsweetened coconut
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 2 Tbs maple syrup or agave
  • 3 Tbs olive oil
  • 3 Tbs melted coconut oil
  • 2 Tsp vanilla
  • 1 Tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ Tsp ground Chinese Five Spice
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1-1 ½ cups dried fruit of your choice (I love cranberries, dried blueberries, raisins, and chopped apricots, but feel free to mix it up!)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C).
  2. Combine everything (except for the dried fruit) in a large mixing bowl. This includes your rolled oats, chopped nuts, coconut, brown sugar, maple syrup or agave, olive oil, melted coconut oil, vanilla, cinnamon, Chinese Five Spice, and a pinch of salt.
  3. Spread the mixture evenly on a lined baking sheet.
  4. Bake for 45 minutes to an hour, gently stirring occasionally to prevent burning. If it looks like it’s cooking too quickly, turn down the heat slightly.
  5. Once your granola is a golden brown, remove it from the oven and mix in your dried fruit.
  6. Let it cool completely before storing in an airtight container.

This granola will keep well for about a week—if it lasts that long! Enjoy it with your morning coffee or pack it as a snack for your next fall hike.
