What to Know for Your Stay
Reservation Policies
RESERVATIONS
If you’re staying for only one night, we request your lodging deposit in full at the time of the reservation being made. For two or more nights, we will need a 50% deposit of your stay.
Reservations made through third-party websites such as Booking.com, Expedia, HotelTonight, BedandBreakfast.com, and Airbnb will be charged a 100% deposit at the time of booking.
CANCELLATIONS
Cancellation of any portion of your reservation may be made 14 days prior to your check in date. Cancellations made fewer than 14 days prior to the check in date will be charged for the full amount of the reservation, unless the room is rebooked.
The Margin Street Inn has a limited number of rooms, which is ideal for the kind of personalized attention we like to give our guests – but it also limits the number of reservations we can accept. Our cancellation policy must take this into account, so we thank you for your understanding.
The Margin Street Inn does not take responsibility for changes to your reservation due to inclement weather, unforeseen changes to travel plans, personal sickness or injury, COVID or family emergencies.
Cancellations must be made by phone, not via email.
If you made your reservation through a third-party website such as Booking.com, Expedia, HotelTonight, BedandBreakfast.com, or Airbnb, you are bound to the cancellation policies agreed to when booking on their website. The cancellation policies on their website may differ from our standard cancellation policies when booking directly with the Margin Street Inn. Any reservation made on a third-party website must be canceled through the third-party website.
CHECKING IN & OUT
Check-in is anytime between 3pm and 6pm. If you think you will be arriving later than 6pm, please contact us and we will send self check-in instructions. Early check-in at 1pm may be available by prior arrangement. Check-out time is 11am. We will do our best to honor requests for early check-in and late check-out, depending on room availability. Both carry an extra charge. Otherwise, we are happy to store your baggage.
Payment is taken at time of check-in.
We take cash and credit cards as payment. Checks can be mailed to the Margin Street Inn, 4 Margin Street, Westerly RI 02891.
BREAKFAST
Our Full Buffet breakfast is included and served daily from 8:30am to 10am. Please let us know at least 72 hours in advance of your reservation of any dietary considerations. If you would like to bring someone to breakfast who is not a guest at the Inn, you’re welcome to. Please let us know 48 hours in advance, so we can set an extra place. There is a $25 additional charge per person. Please limit to 2 outside guests per breakfast. (We only serve breakfast, but we have listed many wonderful restaurants nearby for lunch and dinner. For some suggestions, see Explore.)
WEDDINGS & PRIVATE EVENTS
Weddings or private events on the grounds require booking all ten Inn rooms with a three-night minimum. Please call to inquire.
Outside vendors coming to the Inn, including hair, makeup and photography, must be arranged in advance. Please let us know about any guests visiting the property. Non-Inn guests may not park at the Inn to take shuttles to events. There are no on-premise after-parties. The lawn, common areas and living rooms are for guests of the Margin Street Inn only.
MINIMUM STAY REQUIREMENTS
A two-night minimum stay is generally required throughout the year. During our peak summer season, a three-night minimum stay is required, including weekends in June, July, and August.
Minimum stay requirements may vary based on dates, availability, holidays, and special events. Occasionally, shorter stays may become available between existing reservations. Please check availability online or contact us directly with questions about specific dates.
GETTING READY
Guests staying at the Inn may use the Inn for day-of preparations. The fee is $350 for up to 4 people and $500 for 5 to 6 people. We cannot accommodate more than 6. Hair and makeup must be done in designated, prearranged areas and may not begin before 8:00am. If you are not holding an event at the Margin Street Inn, the fee is $1,500 with a five-hour time limit.
CHILDREN
Children aged 16 and older are welcome. Children of a younger age are welcome if the entire Inn is privately booked for an event.
GUEST ROOMS
All guest rooms have one bed, either queen or king, with a two-person maximum occupancy. We do not allow blow-up mattresses, and no one may sleep in the common areas or on the couches.
THE PROPERTY
The Margin Street Inn is a bed and breakfast, not a short-term rental. Booking the Inn gives you use of the ten guest rooms and the common spaces. The kitchen, basement and any room marked Staff Only are not for guest use. Guests and hosts are responsible for any damage to the buildings, trees or property.
ROOM KEYS
Losing or not returning keys will result in a $35 fee.
SMOKING
Smoking is not permitted inside the buildings, on the decks or patios, or in the restrooms. There is a designated smoking area near the firepit, marked with a sign. This applies to cigarettes, cigars, pipes and vaping devices. If there is any sign of smoking or vaping in your room during your stay, a minimum $500 additional cleaning fee will automatically be charged to your account. Additional fees will be charged for any extra cleaning required.
PETS
We love animals, but due to our room setup, pets are not permitted in the buildings or on the property unless arranged in advance. We are happy to refer you to a local boarder.

Guests are invited to enjoy a complimentary evening social hour on the sun porch, featuring a selection of wine and beer. It’s a cozy way to unwind after a crisp fall day exploring Westerly and Watch Hill.
